Broker
Key Functions
- Needs assessor: Identifies community assets/needs through direct contact with community residents in their multiple languages.
- Facilitator/mediator: Convenes residents to participate in community building processes.
- Bridge-builder: Fosters new relationships in the community.
- Partner: Seeks outside partners (local, regional and statewide) that can assist in implementing identified change strategies.
- Coalition and collaborative builder: Works collaboratively with organizations and individuals to improve the quality of life of East Palo Alto residents.
- Coordinator: Coordinates local service providers to increase community assets, fill existing gaps and avoid the duplication of services.
Capacity Builder
Key Functions
- Outreach Worker: Engages community members in community issues with focused outreach to non-English speaking residents and other marginalized groups.
- Organizer: Mobilizes community to articulate community interests and keep key local, regional and state policy makers accountable to community needs.
- Trainer: In partnership with other organizations, helps to build the leadership skills of local residents.
- Supporter: Provides safe environments that promote change at the individual, organizational and community level.
- Researcher: Conducts or convenes best practice research with research partners to identify innovative program models.
- Incubator: Develops capacity of new or existing organizations to take on projects by OEPA.
- Resource Developer: Leverages resources and brings new resources into the community.
Advocate
Key Functions
- Storyteller/documenter: Documents and reports residents’ diverse opinions, voices and stories and empowers residents to voice opinions. Educator: Conducts OEPA sponsored research to define/articulate positions on community issues.
- Communicator: Spreads the word about issues of community concerns to all residents, including non-English speaking groups.
- Mobilizer: Mobilizes community to advocate for public and private accountability to the needs of East Palo Alto.
