One East Palo Alto recently completed a long-term strategic planning process.  The process was designed to identify key program initiatives that must be implemented by the organization and its partners in order to successfully address important quality-of-life issues in the community.

Programmatic Initiative 1: Improving Educational Outcomes for Youth at Risk

Last year, more than 80% of the students in grades K through 3 at Green Oaks Academy and in grades 4 through 8 at Cesar Chavez Academy read below the 50th percentile. 

One East Palo Alto will strengthen and expand after school program services in these two East Palo Alto schools; empower parents to advocate for their children's educational needs; and increase parental involvement in their children's education.  Our strategies to improve educational outcomes are to:

• Connect all appropriate stakeholders so that they work together more effectively to articulate and implement a coherent and powerful vision for quality after school services.

• Connect all appropriate stakeholders to bring into alignment their goals, perspectives, and methodologies, then connect the work at each site to the concerns of parents and establish a sustainable process for receiving and evaluating parental and stakeholders' feedback.

• Manage after school programs on site at Cesar Chavez Academy whose activities are results-oriented and evidence excellence in service delivery.

Anticipated outcomes of these strategies are that:

• Parents will have an articulate, coherent voice in decision-making processes at the local school district. 

• The Cesar Chavez Academy after school program will become a model site and children and their parents receive the educational support they need to succeed.
